A crack in Aquino’s rainbow coalition-A A +A

JOE de Venecia, the man of inexhaustible promises and king of talk in Congress, calls it “rainbow coalition”. He was the chief architect of this odd cabal. The coalition is actually a coterie of political balimbings. They have not changed their agenda from the time JoeDV organized it. They were/are drawn together in the guise of collaborating with the Executive Department for the good of the country, a shameless and fictional cover-up for their mundane interest actually.
This devious clique of political parties however would start to disintegrate when the Chief Executive is about to exit from his office. While during the good time and bonanza the rainbow coalition would shield members from public indignation, selfish party and individual interests inevitably create schism in the coalition.
Vice President Jojo Binay, a political doyen without equal, knows this for certain. He was a PDP-Laban stalwart who coalesced with Erap Estrada to promote is political agenda. But he has an avuncular relations with the Aquino family with whom he stood by in time of crises while Mar Roxas was enjoying the day and night life in New York City. Thus, he readily joined the rainbow coalition headed by the Liberal Party. Why not? If the dye-in-the-wool GMA loyalists quickly jumped ship off Lakas-NUCD to join the LPs so why not JojoBinay? It’s for political convenience and advancement that he did and in doing so became a member of the Official Family of Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
What he does as housing and resettlement czar never stirred the coalition. But not for long. Vice President Binay has, among his intimate friends, Estrada and Enrile who, along with another so-called opposition are facing graft and corruption cases before the Sandigan Bayan. Binay was actually a classic example of “namamangka sa dalawang ilog”. Binay, his wife and a congresswoman daughter, were allegedly involved in irregularities too.
The mainstream LP stalwarts were just waiting for an opportune time to strike Binay at the jugular. When the vice president was quoted as saying that the indictment of Enrile, Estrada and Revilla was engineered by the Liberals, some LP stalwart lost no time in calling for the ouster of Binay from the coalition.
Binay knows he had it coming. But what he does not expect was materialization of the “White Paper” which enumerates the sins of the Binays. In short the demolition job has started and the Vice President has to weather this till Election Day in 2016.
Time and time again Vice President Binay claimed that what his political adversaries are doing is plain harassment and persecution. He said that the charges against his family had been dismissed. While this is indeed true, the dismissal of the graft case was a decision made by the City Prosecutors and not by the Court. If new pieces of evidence surface the complaint can again be filed. So far the Binays are off the hook but in a country where there are so many salivating politicians wanting to grab power, it is not farfetched that those complaints will be resurrected.
But how come Binay suspected that the “white paper” came from the LP camp? It is actually no brainer. Mar Roxas, P-noy’s most loyal friend who gave up the presidency in his favor, remains to be the anointed bet of Malacañang. With Binay’s not-too-convincing lead in the surveys, the Roxas strategists might have started painting the VP black so that despite his bumbling handling of Yolanda and Zamboanga crises the DILG Chief will come out white.
Expect the Aquino boys to start washing their dirty linens in public, assuming they have not yet. Wait until the rainbow coalition lost the prismatic glow and its luster gone. Like crocs and snakes they will devour each other. And what a beautiful spectacle will this be.
