In her last Palarong Pambansa stint due to her incoming retirement from government service, Regional Director Gloria D. Benigno of this region is hopeful that this year's DAVRAA Team can bring home a single digit ranking in this year's holding of the said sporting event that kicks off today in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Region IV-A. Here is the excerpt of her speech delivered during the DAVRAA Meet last February.

The activity this afternoon is a prelude to something big, the hosting of the 2015 Palarong Pambansa, hopefully. Based from the words uttered by Asec Umali on Sunday, he said it seems that we preparing not for a regional palaro but for the Palarong Pambansa.

It means we are ready but we need to follow the bidding process for us to formally clinch the right to host the 2015 national games.

At this juncture, I would like to thank all the participating divisions with their superintendents and assistant superintendents together with the support of their respective local government officials from the four provinces and six cities for gracing this occasion. To all the members of DepEd family here in Region XI for being here and everywhere in various capacities, thank you for doing your share for making this momentous event, a successful one.

Special thanks also goes to the working committees of the host province and city and the two division offices. To the athletes, thank you for your efforts and extra time.

I stood before you in the same stage and challenged you to achieve a single digit ranking but still we ranked number 10 among 17 regions. We have to achieve our dream of achieving a single digit ranking that is why we devise some ways in order to attain it as agreed by the members of the DAVRAA Board.

One of these measures is to start training right after the provincial or city meet and to identify by Friday (February 14) the qualified athletes so that right away, you will start your training for the palaro in your divisions or schools and it shall be strategized by your superintendent as you also need to still attend classes.

I am strongly urging that all the coaches who will be selected to represent DAVRAA in Palaro will focus on this activity and shall not join other trainings this summer.

I am making this public because I need you support. DAVRAA is not only DepEd's activity, it is for the whole region. To all of us for this regional palaro and to the national competition: Davraa, go go go!

This corner hopes that the wish of our outgoing director will be realized.
