THE total amount of educational assistance extended by the City Government of Davao to the family members of those who were killed and injured during the Davao International Airport bombing in 2003 reached P4,302,000 -- P600,000 for elementary students, P1,162,000 for high school, and P2,540,000 for college/vocational students.

This was announced during the commemoration of the 11th anniversary last March 4, Tuesday.

The City Government has been supporting these beneficiaries since 2003.

What was more inspiring to know was that the city has already produced 20 college/vocational graduates from the beneficiaries.

The commemoration every year is not done to remind the public of the pain and grief caused by the gruesome incident but to come in memory of events that touched the lives of every Dabawenyos.

The DIA bombing was indeed considered as "one of the very sad episodes in the lives of Dabawenyos" since innocent citizens were killed and injured.

But, the City, through Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, has never forgotten the children of those killed. The assistance extended by the City Government is overwhelming.

The city rekindled the hope in the hearts of the individuals who had almost lost it due to the unfortunate incident.

We just hope that the next leadership of the city will continue to support the affected families whom the present administration has helped.
