AFTER one-year and more than six months as commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), Lt. General Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III is scheduled to retire this Friday, with ceremonies at Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Panacan in Davao City.

Cruz has served the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for 38 years.

He assumed his post as commander of Eastmincom on April 23, 2013 following the retiring rites of his predecessor Lt. General Jorge Segovia.

Eastmincom's Public Information officer Captain Albert Caber, in a phone interview Wednesday said Cruz will reach the mandatory retirement age 56 this Saturday, but the change of command ceremony will be held on September 5, with AFP chief of staff General Gregorio Catapang Jr. as guest of honor.

Major General Aurelio B. Baladad is set to replace Cruz and assume his post as the eighth commander of Eastmincom. Baladad earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Philippine Military Academy in 1982 Class Sandigan.

"He is a distinguished and bemedalled officer of the AFP. Prior to his designation as commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, he was the commander of the Army's 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division based in Capiz Province," Caber said.

Baladad was the former commander of the 202nd Infantry Brigade of the Army's 2nd Infantry Division. In 2012, he was assigned as assistant division commander for the Army's 9th Infantry Division based in Bicol Region.

Cruz, on the other hand, said although he will be retiring, the people can rest assured that the Oplan Bayanihan will continue under the new commander. (ICT)
