TWO men died while two others were injured in separate vehicular accidents in Davao City on Monday.

The first accident took place around 2:45 a.m. along Buhangin Road near a restaurant in Buhangin this city.

The vehicles involved were a Toyota Fortuner with plate number ZGU-334 driven by Johanne Christine Almirante Sideño, 29, a resident of Jose Abad Santos Street in Koronadal City and a Honda motorcycle with plate number 1112-388414 driven by Jose Gopo Cananea, 58, resident of Hillside in Bajada, Davao City.

Initial investigation conducted by SPO4 Rey Roces of the Buhangin police revealed that while Sideño was traveling in Buhangin heading to Sto Rosario Street, the right rear door and front door of her vehicle was sideswiped by the left edge handle bar of Cananea's motorcycle.

According to Sideño, this happened before she could pass by Penong's restaurant. She said Cananea was on the process of overtaking at the right side of her vehicle when the motorcycle ran over on a wet and muddy portion of the road.

The motorcycle swerved and hit the Fortuner, bending to the right and smashed on the electric post. Thus, Cananea suffered severe injuries. He was rushed to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), however, the man died after 25 minutes of medical treatment due to head injury.

Sideño is temporarily detained at the Buhangin Police Station for her proper disposition.

The other accident occurred around 9:10 p.m. along Km. 26 in Lasang this city, where vehicles involved were a Hino truck with plate number LYK-116 and Honda TMX motorcycle with plate number YF-9056.

The truck driver was identified as Gerald Plasos dela Torre, 34, a holder of driver's license registered and owned by the Bachelor Express Inc. of Butuan City, resident of Mawab town in Compostela Valley; while the motorcycle driver was identified as Rosallo Gohetia Nieves Jr., 19, a resident of Panabo City.

Initial investigation conducted by PO3 Danny Nicor of the Bunawan police showed the truck was heading south while the motorcycle was heading towards north when it allegedly overtook another vehicle and encroached to the opposite lane where the truck was.

Nieves bumped into the truck and was declared dead on the spot by responding paramedics. Torre, on the other hand, is currently detained at the Bunawan Police Station for his proper disposition.
