THE police officers who were part of the solution to the death of businessman Ramon Ty Garcia each received cash reward from Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
For the fast crime solution, Mayor Duterte gave commendation to nine Davao City Police Office personnel led by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao, who received P50,000.
Also commended were Police Officer 3 (PO3) Roberto Jaca Jr., PO1 Frank Nissan Tuyor, and PO3 Risty Go who got P10,000 each.
Chief Inspector Alfred Santillana received P30,000; SPO1 Rizaldo Suaga, PO1 Bhobit Jerome Tumuran, PO1 Peterson Amaguen received P20,000 apiece and cartographer Edson Berdos got P10,000.
Aside from the commendation, Duterte also gave Danao a brand new Taurus .38 snubnose.
Duterte said he was satisfied with the speedy investigation of the crime, which was solved after the arrest of two suspects in less than 24 hours.
Duterte also credited the latest technology the City Government has that was very useful in determining the timeline of events from when it started and how it ended.
The victim, president of the Nanay Bebeng Culinary Enterprises Incorporation and operator of Nanay Bebeng's chain of restaurants, and resident of Las Terrazas in Ma-a in Davao City, was last seen with the suspects along Sparrow Street in Ecoland Subdivision way past midnight Friday by a witness who positively identified the two as the ones in Garcia's vehicle.
The two, Daisy Joy Supatan Cachapero, alias Angel, 27, a golf umbrella girl, and her boyfriend Ariel John Jamora Liawan, alias Jan-Jan, 23, both residents of Purok 13 in Barangay Poblacion in Sulop town in Davao del Sur, are accused of killing Garcia as the businessman was bringing the woman to her house.
The victim and Cachapero were last seen at a hotel bar in Davao City on Thursday night when the victim offered Cachapero a ride home. Along Sparrow Street in Ecoland Subdivision, Matina, Liawan boarded Garcia's vehicle from the back and threatened the latter with a knife.
The suspect claimed he panicked when a tricycle passed by, which made him stab the victim.
The two drove off and tried to dispose of the body.
Garcia's body, which bore multiple stab wounds and his mouth sealed with masking tape, was found in a 20-meter deep cliff at Sitio Baluyan in Barangay Bolton in Malalag town in Davao del Sur around 9 a.m. Friday.
Cahapero and Liawan were already charged with robbery with homicide before the City Prosecutor's Office on Monday.
