THE next wave of financial assistance the City Government of Davao plans to extend to the fire victims in three barangays along Quezon Boulevard on April 4 will be distributed as soon as the rehabilitation program is all set.

"It will be ready by the time we are ready to locate them back," Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told reporters.

Duterte promised the fire victims that they will be given additional cash assistance for the reconstruction of their houses.

He said the same amount will be given to house owners and renters. The City gave P10,000 cash assistance to house owners and P5,000 to renters.

In the meantime, the Task Force Isla Verde is finalizing the roster of affected fire victims and the location of their houses before the fire gutted them down.

"Basta umuwi lang kayo kung tapos na ang census. Balik kayo sa inyong location before the fire," Duterte said.

Meanwhile, City Administrator Melchor Quitain said some people pretend to be victims of the fire and ask for financial assistance from the government and other private groups and individuals.

"Kung kayo ho hindi biktima, huwag na ho kayong sumali. Hindi naman nila kailangan ng tulong, hindi naman sila nasunugan. May I request these people huwag na kayong makisawsaw," Quitain said.

He said the City Government will be forced to take legal action against those who take advantage. (ANC)
