EMPLOYEES of a local radio station in Davao City called on Friday for the relief of their manager whom they lambasted for poor performance in handling the station.

Workers of the dxDC Radio Mindanao Network (RMN)-Davao led by traffic secretary and president of the company's employees union Gina Hitgano called for the ouster of their station manager Leobardo Daugdaug, whom they criticized for lack of managerial skills and antagonizing the efforts of the union.

"Ang mga empleyado, apil ang usa ka supervisor sa RMN-Davao, ningpirma sa petition nga among gihatag sa RMN top management nga palagputon si Daugdaug as station manager. Ang rason, tungod kay wala nay salig ang mga empleyado sa iyaha tungod sa iyang pamalakad nga divisive kaayo (The employees, including one supervisor of RMN-Davao, signed a petition, which we gave to the RMN top management, for the ouster of Daugdaug as station manager. The reason is the employees don't trust him anymore for his divisive management)," Hitgano said in an interview during their picket outside their office at corner Bonifacio and Anda Streets on Friday.

The union head said that since Daugdaug took over three years ago, the radio station has seen a slump in its perennial top rating after falling to number two and three in the surveys of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and AC-Nielsen, respectively. The company's sales allegedly decreased as well.

"We tried to talk to him but he refused to. There was even one time that we displayed black curtains inside the office to express our dismay for his unresponsiveness to our calls. But instead of responding, he ordered the security guards to take down the curtains," Hitgano said.

Among Daugdaug's actions that caught the ire of the employees is the cutting down of airtime for the news reporters. The employees saw this as a constructive dismissal ploy.

"Reporters will be forced to work for only two hours since the reporters are only tasked to make one report. Previously, we had news breaks but now, the only news slot that was given is at 4 a.m. We see this as a constructive dismissal, that is why we decided to conduct a protest," Hitgano said.

But before the protest took place, Hitgano said she has been constantly asking Daugdaug to have a meeting with the employees to iron things out but the station manager refused to do so.

But Daugdaug, in a statement sent through email to Sun.Star Davao, argued that the station only had a brief slump in the ranking, noting that the station was the perennial number one in 2011 and 2012.

Although he acknowledged that the station ranked third in the second quarter of 2013 and second in the third quarter, the company was number one during the first quarter and regained the top spot on the last quarter of 2013.

On the issue of sales, Daugdaug said: "Pagsugod nako'g lingkod sa posisyon, nakadawat dayon ug award ang station nga nakakuha ug taas nga sales performance, 105 percent versus its quota (When I took over the position, we received an award for high sales performance, 105 percent from the quota at that)."

He said he even implemented an equal sharing of sales commission among the employees.

In response to the removal of the black curtains, Daugdaug said he had no knowledge that the employees were protesting against him, and that he was forced to order the security guards to take down the curtains since advertisers may not like the ambience inside the office when they enter.

RMN Networks chairman Eric Canoy is yet to respond on the petition of the RMN-Davao employees.
