AUTHORITIES here are still puzzled as to who placed the hand grenade in the garbage bin near the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) in Ecoland in Davao City on March 17.

Record from Talomo Police Station showed that the grenade was found around 10 a.m. Lawyer Jony Avanceña Agustin, of the DCOTT, contacted the police station and reported a fragmentation hand grenade is found at the Dante Junk Shop owned by Dante Abandigan Maliño, 43.

The junkshop is located beside the DCOTT Gate 5 in Ecoland.

Shop assistant Nilo Sayawan Lontod, 33, said he was at the height of segregating assorted empty plastic bottles when he noticed an olive-green rectangular plastic marked with “Marines” rolled out from sack. When he opened it, he saw the grenade bind with a masking tape around.

Lontod called for assistance of the army posted at the Gate 7. The army immediately contacted the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the Task Force Davao (TFD) and cordoned the area. Recovered was a M72 hand grenade (PRB–423).
