DAVAO del Sur Governor Claude Bautista said Friday that the revival of the anti-communist vigilante group Alsa Masa will only be temporary for as long as the New People's Army (NPA) refuses to talk with the local government.

"It depends how sincere they are to communicate with us. in the first place, we do not know who are we going to talk to. In the meantime, we have to establish (the Alsa Masa). We also have the right to revive it," said Bautista in an interview during the launching of the 105.9 Balita FM.

Bautista said the reorganization of province-wide Alsa Masa will counter another attack of the NPA.

The revival of the Alsa Masa was endorsed during a meeting with the municipal mayors.

"The peace and order council agreed to have a uniform implementation of the programs for the group," Bautista said.

Bautista said the municipal mayors will determine where to source out budget for the operation of the group in each town, whose membership msy include the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVOs).

"Most likely, may mga intelligence funds sila. We will be providing the needs to be addressed," he said.

Meanwhile, Bautista also revealed that they will investigate the claims of the NPA that those police officers killed were "drug dealers." (ANC)
