THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City recorded a total of 75 fire incidents, including grassy and vehicle fires since January this year.

Fire Officer 3 Ramil Gillado, investigator of the Davao City Bureau of Fire Protection-Investigations and Intelligence Section, said this year's number of fire incidents since January is higher than in 2013.

Gillado said the office recorded 75 fire incidents as of March 10 this year, of which 20 were recorded in January, 31 in February, and 24 in March.

Last year, he said they have recorded 63 fire incidents, of which 15 in January, 22 in February, and 26 in March.

As to the cost of damage to properties, this year's fire incidents had already damaged a total of P22,473,000, compared to last year's P22,934,000, Gillado added. He also said the common cause of fire is electrical.

Gillado said their safety inspection on establishments is ongoing.
