BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares said Mayor Rodrigo Duterte can make a difference should he get elected as the president of the Philippines.
However, she said the decision to seek the position depends on Duterte.
"If he can bring the discipline of Davao City to the whole country, I think everyone will be happy," Henares told reporters in an interview on Friday at the BIR regional office.
She was quick to add that, "([It's) too early for me to say about supporting anyone."
The BIR official was in Davao City for the 2014 Tax Campaign Kick Off.
Henares recalled the time when she sought Duterte's help to address the rice smuggling dilemma in the city.
She expressed gratitude to the local chief executive.
"At that time when we really need help to try to do something to stop the outflow of rice, we were able to get the assistance that we need," she said.
Henares personally called up Bong Go, the executive assistant of Duterte, in December last year asking for his help regarding the prolific rice smuggling in the country, with Davao City as one of the ports of entry.
