ALL members of the 17th Davao City Council, except Councilors Joanne Bonguyan-Quilos, Diosdado Mahipus, and Rene Elias Lopez, had already received brand-new vehicles.

The simple turnover of the keys of the Toyota Avanza units was done at the SM Annex on Friday, shortly before Mayor Rodrigo Duterte attended the 2014 Tax Campaign Kick Off.

Present during the turnover were Councilors Mabel Acosta, Rachel Zozobrado, Leonardo Avila IV, Bonifacio Militar, Nilo Abellera Jr., Berino Mambo-o Sr.

Duterte, in an interview, said each vehicle costs P690,000. He said he never purchased vehicles that is worth a million, but admits that buying vehicles is a necessary expense.

“They cannot also work as councilors ug di sila kalihok (if they have no mobility),” he said.

Meanwhile, Duterte said the three remaining councilors are yet to receive their respective government-issued vehicles.

“Wala pay giorder sa ilaha. So maghulat sa sila (we haven’t placed the orders yet. They have to wait),” he said.

Bonguyan-Quilos belongs to the National Unity Party (NUP), Lopez is a candidate of Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) and Mahipus was a member of the Hugpong Party but was dropped from the roster after he campaigned for Joji Ilagan-Bian, the rival of Hugpong's candidate second district Representative Mylene Garcia-Albano.

The City Council has 26 members.
