Duterte: Woman who took child deserves jail-A A +A
Sunday, February 16, 2014
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said the woman who turned over the two-year-old girl she earlier abducted inside a mall in the city deserved to be charged and locked up in jail.
Charged with violation of Article 267 (kidnapping and serious illegal detention) of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act was Deodita Antero.
She was charged after she allegedly took the girl home and kept her for three days. The girl was reported missing last Monday while in the mall with her mother, Erika Campana.
In television program “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” on Sunday, Duterte said the woman deserves to be charged so that others will not do what she did.
"So many instances here in Davao nga naay bata mawala. If I allowed her to go scot-free like nothing happens, ang musunod niya mugara. It’s a serious crime, bisan unsa pa na iya rason (Others will follow, it’s a serious crime no matter what her excuses are)," Duterte said.
Duterte also reminded parents to watch their children whenever they go outside the house.
"Kamo gani mga ginikanan, hikti na inyong anak kung manggawas mo. Ihikot sa hawak aron dili mawala or kuhaon sa lain tawo, maglakawlakaw man jud ng mga bata. Kana tambag ra nako (Parents should tie their children to their waists because children will really wander off. That’s just my advise)," Duterte said.
