LAFAYETTE A. Lim is the new private-partner of the City Government of Davao for this year's Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) 12, an order creating the executive committee of the 77th Araw ng Dabaw celebration, in which Lim, from the private sector, is the co-chair and the one in-charge for the finance, ways and means.

City Administrator lawyer Melchor Quitain, in an interview, said Lim is one of the members of the family who owns the homegrown NCCC.

"He's been very active in the past celebration of Davao City, especially if it involves tourism. He was a member before of the Chinatown Council," Quitain told reporters.

He said being familiar with the previous activities of the city is considered Lim's "advantage" as the city's partner since "he already has the experience and he is dedicated."

The Araw ng Dabaw 2014 Execom is composed of Duterte as chair; Lim as co-chair and chair for finance, ways and means; Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte as vice-chair; Assistant City Administrator for Operations Jhopee A. Agustin and Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre as the festival directorate; and Christopher Lawrence Go as executive assistant of the city mayor.

Alejandre, during the I-Speak Forum at the City Hall on Thursday, said Lim replaced the Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation. However, he said it was Mayor Duterte’s prerogative to choose the city's partner in any of its events.

Aljandre said the total budget for the Araw is pegged at P6,152,000.

Out of the P6-million budget, the share of the City Government is P1,695,500.

"Yung private partner na ang bahala sa paghahanap ng sponsors (to fill in the remaining budget)," he said.

Alejandre, however, said the execom has not yet come up with a theme for this year's Araw.

Based on the EO 12, the official events this year are opening of Araw ng Dabaw and Thanksgiving mass, Mutya ng Dabaw, Banda Hudyaka, Sayawan sa Dan, Parada Dabawenyo, City Hall Employee's Day, Dachea (Davao City hall Employees Association) Sportsfest, and Datu Bago Awards/Mayor's Ball.

The proposed date for the opening of Araw is on March 10 at 8 a.m. (Sun.Star Davao)
