Girl, 16, rescued; 6 nabbed for various crimes

THE Davao Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) rescued a 16-year-old girl and arrested six individuals, including two women, for various criminal offenses in series of follow-up operations in Davao Region, from February 4 to 7.

First arrested was identified as Joel Lanticse Relampago, 45, a local government employee of Sulop town in Davao del Sur and resident of Barangay Palili in the same town. He was arrested for violation of the Omnibus Election Code.

Members of the CIDG in Davao del Sur led by PO3 Datu Sajed M. Clao, of the operations, in coordination with Sulop police, headed by Sr. Insp. Ferdinand Casiano, arrested Relampago at his house at aroubd 1:30 p.m. following the issuance of an arrest warrant on February 4, 2014.


CIDG regional director Senior Superintendent Joel Pernito said Relampago was brought to his office for documentation and is now temporarily detained at Sulop Municipal Police Office while waiting for his commitment order from the provincial court.

Wilfredo Dubria Canja, 45, of Apokon in Tagum City, was also arrested on February 5 for murder. He was reported as 14th most wanted person in PRO Calabarzon Region.

The CIDG Davao City, led by Sr. Inspector Francis Sonza of Operations Division, arrested the suspect by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by the 4th Judicial Region, Municipal Trial Court (MTC) in Dasmarinas in Cavite.

Pernito said after 11 years of hiding, Canja was finally arrested in Buhangin. He added that the suspect was turned over before the Cavite Provincial Police Office (CPPO) early morning on Thursday for his proper disposition.

The CIDG also rescued a 16-year-old girl outside an apartment on Magsaysay St. in Davao City on February 5 at around 7 p.m., after she was reportedly endorsed by a man identified only as Lyka, as escort service to male customers.

According to the parents of the girl, who sought the assistance of the operatives, their daughter left their house on February 2 after she was scolded by her mother.

The couple later learned that their daughter was forced to work as escort service to male customers at an apartment on Uyanguren.

Authorities in Davao Oriental, on the other hand, arrested two women in a raid in Barangay San Ignacio in Manay town on February 5 at around 9 p.m. for violation of RA 9287 or The Penalties for Illegal Number Games.

CIDG Davao Oriental team leader Chief Inspector Jose Teody Condesa, identified the two suspects as Marina Placido Dagcutan and Rhodora Bugsad Andalajao, both residents of Lingayao in the same barangay.

Next to be arrested was identified as Avelino Mejoras Sefuentes, 60, resident of Purok Aroma II in Barangay Poblacion in Lupon town, Davao Oriental. He was recorded as one of the most wanted persons in Davao Region.

Authorities, in coordination with the Lupon Municipal Police Station, arrested the suspect on Aguinaldo Street in Poblacion Lupon on February 6 at around 1 p.m. following the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Emilio G. Dayanghirang III, of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 32 in Lupon.

Sefuentes was earlier charged with murder without bail for allegedly killing a barangay chief on June 12, 2013. The suspect was brought to CIDG office for documentation and is now detained at the LMPS jail facility.

The CIDG in Davao del Norte also arrested a suspect identified as Quini Retes, alias Ronnie, 43, tricycle driver, resident of Purok 4 in Barangay Quezon in Panabo City in Davao del Norte for allegedly selling a caliber.357 revolver.

The operatives in coordination with the Panabo City Police Office arrested Retes at 11:30 a.m. in their entrapment operation in Barangay San Francisco in Panabo City, after he was caught in the act selling a gun.

Pernito said Retes is believed to be a member of the Torres Criminal Gang operating in Davao del Norte. He added that the suspect was found with a caliber.357 revolver without any pertinent documents, one piece holster, and P500 cash. He is now detained at the Panabo City Police Office.

Also arrested was Briskie Padillo Cabalisa, alias Brisky Cabalesa, 42, resident of Purok Orchid at Latasa Village in Barangay Tiguman in Digos City in Davao del Sur. Cabalisa was recorded as No.9 most wanted person in Davao del Sur.

The CIDG in Davao del Sur led by Chief Inspector Arvin Avelino in coordination with the Digos City Police Office led by Supt. Queruben Manalang, arrested the suspect at Purok Daisy, So. Lower Tiguman, Barangay Tiguman in Digos City around 6:10 p.m. on February 7.
