DAVAO CITY Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Sunday that he has been receiving information about a police officer who has been protecting illegal gambling, and that he intends to send this officer to jail if evidence supports the claim.

"I would like to know him. If tinuod an, then we'll file charges against him. I already told the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director earlier na dili ko gusto ug sugal sa siyudad (I don't like illegal gambling in the city). We will know him if naa," Duterte said.

The mayor also urged the public to name the police officer who was reportedly behind the illegal gambling in the city. He added that he would have investigated if he has the name of the officer.

DCPO Director Vicente Danao Jr. has vowed to corroborate the report. He said he would check his personnel whether the information is factual or not.

"As far as I'm concerned, wala naman akong nababalitaan na police behind gambling dito. But to clear the information, we'll validate the report and check our personnel. Anyway, open naman kami for investigation," Danao said.
