THE Traffic Management Center (TMC) arrested five taxi drivers on Wednesday for not using their meter while ferrying passengers arriving from the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City.
Arrested for violation of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) memorandum circular 2007-005 and Land Transportation Office Department Order 2008-39 are Romulo Macon, of Km. 12, Sasa; Florentino Ramiliano of Km. 11 Sasa; Fernando Macias, of Digos City; Willie Jimenez, of Bolton and Romeo Mosqueda of Polomok, South Cotabato.
TMC deputy director Senior Inspector Paulino Zaulda Jr., in an interview, said: "One of the passengers of the arrested taxi drivers who were waiting for passengers in the airport as they didn't use their meter and demanded for a fixed price to take their passengers to the downtown area."
Zaulda said the taxicabs were endorsed to the LTFRB while the driver's licenses of the taxi drivers were taken to the LTO.
LTFRB will determine if the drivers will be disbarred from their respective franchises while the LTO has already suspended the drivers for 45 days.
"There is a need to arrest and impose penalties on these taxi drivers since we are maintaining the reputation of all the taxi drivers in Davao City. In some parts of the Philippines these kinds of taxi drivers are rampant but in Davao City, we will not allow that since we want to maintain that our taxi drivers here are honest," Zaulda said.
