THE Bureau of Immigration (BOI) arrested two overstaying Chinese nationals in an operation in Tagum City Thursday.
Arrested in the operation were Qing Mao Lim and her live-in partner Yushu Chen. The two were arrested in an operation spearheaded by BOI alien control officer Eddie Delima.
Delima told reporters Friday, "Nag-operation mi human mi nakadawat ug mission order gikan sa national office. Wala nuon nila na-specify kung pila na sila ka adlaw o tuig nag overstay sa Plipinas (We launched the operation after receiving a mission order from the national office. They, however, did not specify how many days or years they have been overstaying)."
He also said that the two Chinese nationals had no other delinquency aside from overstaying.
"They have a store in Tagum City and when we checked on the status of these stores, they managed to have a permit for their store," Delima said.
The two are already undergoing deportation process. But while Lim and Chen are set to be deported, Delima said they have two children who managed to flee when their agency conducted the operation.
"They have two kids -- a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. We cannot launch an operation against the children of Lim and Chen since we are yet to identify their immigrant status. But once we know that the children are also overstaying, they will also be arrested," Delima said.
The BOI official also noted that the two Chinese nationals are the first arrestees for this year.
"This is a stern warning to the immigrants. If they think they should extend their stay in the Philippines, then they could just go to our office and express their intention to extend their stay. They shouldn't wait for us to launch an operation against them and have them deported," Delima said. (Sun.Star Davao)
