DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte personally came to the crime scene in Doña Vicenta, Davao City where a suspected member of the Akyat Bahay gang was killed.

"Pumunta ako kasi gusto ko makita ang patay. Eh, suspected akyat bahay (member) daw eh," Duterte told reporters in a press conference on Monday.

The San Pedro Police Station did not release the real name of the suspect as they were still confused as to whether the name tattooed on the suspect's back or the name on the pawnpaper inside his back is his name.

The pawnpaper from Cebu City bore the name Mark Peralta while the name on the suspect's back read Perdy Richard Paquira.

"Sabi ng barangay captain, yun yung hinabol niya the night before. He's very sure that's the guy who was killed last night by the police," Duterte said.

According to a tip sent in a text message to "Isumbong mo kay CD," the police were able to quickly use the information and go to the area.

The suspect fitted the description in the text message sent to them by a concerned citizen who said that the suspect kept on passing by their house. The informant also said that he suspected the person to be involved in the numerous theft cases in Marfori, El Rio Vista, and Doña Vicenta.

The police caught up with the suspect who did not stop after being asked to pull over.

He instead sped off in his white and black MIO motorcycle bearing a plate number of 6637-GR, while the mobile patrol followed in pursuit.

Upon reaching Mariner Street in the area, the motorcycle crashed after hitting a road hump. The suspect allegedly pulled out a grenade from his bag, which he threatened to throw to the police officers. The police fired at him.

Recovered from the suspect's possession was a backpack containing a small contraption believed used to break into houses.

Sun.Star Superbalita Davao learned that the suspect was able to post bail for a robbery case in Cebu City last July 2013. (Arianne Caryl N. Casas/Sun.Star Davao/With Jeepy Compio)
