1 killed, another hurt in shooting incidents

A DRIVER was killed while a security guard was wounded in two separate incidents in Davao City.

The first incident which happened along Anthurium Street and Calachuchi Street in Barangay Mintal of Tugbok District around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday claimed the life of one Edgar Intong Cunahap, 45, tricycle driver, of Tugbok Proper in Tugbok District.

Based on the initial investigation of Police Officer 3 (PO3) Dexter Cadoyas, of Tugbok Police Station, the victim was driving his tricycle with one passenger from Mintal Public Market to Tacunan when the passenger instructed him to stop along Anthurium St. and Calachuchi St.


The passenger then shot the victim three times, and fled to an unknown direction on board a red XRM motorcycle without plate number.

According to a witness, the suspect was described on his early 30's, chubby and about 5'5 tall.

Scene of the Crime Operatives-Davao Director Jesus Vintulan declared the victim dead on the spot. The victim succumbed with three gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Recovered from the crime scene were three fired cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol. The victim’s body was brought to Angel Funeral Parlor in Calinan.

Record from the Davao City Police Office's Investigations and Detection Management Branch (DCPO-IDMB) showed there are already 22 deaths from shooting incidents, 17 in July and five this month.

A source, who refused to be named for lack of authority to speak, told Sun.Star Davao that most of the motives of the suspects in those killings were personal grudge. Others are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the second incident happened at Mergrande Beach Resort in Talomo District Wednesday dawn.

The victim was identified as Pableo Balaquinto Padilla, 25, security guard under Dasia Security Agency, of Davao City.

The suspect was identified as Rasid Guiaman Akil, 24, also a security guard under Dasia Security Agency, and resident of Davao City.

Initial investigation of PO3 Bryan Tejano, of the Talomo Police Station, showed that the victim went to their post at the beach resort and confronted the suspect. But the latter without any words pulled out his issued firearm.

"Ang gihimo sa biktima, pagkakita niya na mibunot na'g baril iyang kauban, iyang gisulayan ug ilog ang baril. Pero ni buto gihapon igo sa biktima," Tejano said, adding that the victim sustained a gunshot wound in the lower abdomen.

The victim was rushed to the Adventist Hospital, while the suspect surrendered to the police and is detained at the Talomo Police Station. Recovered from the crime scene were two live ammunitions and two fired cartridge of a .38 caliber pistol.
