KIDAPAWAN CITY - A 26-year-old public school teacher was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen while he was on his way to his work along the highway in Barangay Bagontapay, M'lang, North Cotabato, around 7:10 a.m. Thursday.

Senior Inspector Rolando Dillera, deputy chief of M'lang police, identified the victim as Shernan Mark Duerme, 26, a teacher at M'lang National High School-Annex in Barangay Lepaga.

Dillera said the victim was on board his Honda XR 200R when one of the suspects, using a .45 caliber pistol, pumped bullets into his chest.

Police is looking at personal grudge as one of the motives in Duerme's killing.

Dillera said the victim was a commandant of the school's Citizens Army Training.

"From there, we will start to dig deeper our probe on the killing," he said.

But Shane Duerme, writer at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Soccsksargen, said his elder brother Sherman has no known enemies in school and even in their community in Barangay Bialong, M'lang.

Duerme's killing is the third in North Cotabato since gun ban has been implemented in the province.

On Tuesday, an employee of a recruitment agency identified as Allan Dumato was shot dead in Pikit, North Cotabato.

Dumato was on board his motorcycle when attacked by riding in tandem along the highway in Poblacion, Pikit.

He was declared dead upon arrival at Kabacan Medical Specialist Hospital in nearby Kabacan, according to Chief Inspector Jordine Maribojo, Pikit municipal police station chief.

Also on Tuesday, two escorts of a village chair in Banisilan town were killed after they were waylaid by believed to be members of an armed lawless group led by a rebel commander.

Clan feud is believed the closest motive behind the ambush, police said.
