Citihub wins Startup Weekend

THE team who created a mobile application that helps locals find places and events happening around town outshines 11 others in the 3rd Startup Weekend Davao held from August 1 to 3 at the Ateneo De Davao University (Addu).

Startup weekend is an annual fair where local entrepreneurs, developers, designers, marketers, and even the non-technical individuals learn the best of IT from the IT masters.

Citihub, composed of Nitish Khemani, Guy Romelle Magayano, Kristine Marie Godoy, Jon Von Louie P. Dagaang, Rey Capuyan Fernandez, Eric Red Decin Polido, Jojie Andoyo Dagohoy and Angely Chi, took the judges by storm for winning the annual Startup Weekend.


A web and mobile-based platform made for easy search and match of rental services and equipment landed in 2nd place. The team is composed of Nere Calapre Espera, Dexter Geromo Amper, Larry Candelaria Parba, Glen Villanueva and Lord Dalinas.

The Healthlink, a useful tool to connect doctors and patients, placed third.

Healthlink is composed of Rolando M. del Fierro Jr., Alfred Jett S. Grandeza, Ephraim V. Fernandez Jr., Jhunorjim C. Zandueta, Eric Jones R. Bonga, and Ronald P. Gido.

The holding of the Startup Weekend is primarily to push the local talents to develop and improve their skills, IT being the way of the future.

The brains behind the city's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have poured in much effort all these years to attract investors here and abroad to look into the city's talent pool.

Participants also got coaching from erudite executives of well-established IT-based companies on how they can improve their applications like Yosuke Fukada, co-founder and CEO at YOYO Holdings, Pte. Ltd.; Ray Rubio, CEO at CubePixels; Marvin Consuegra, designer at Lightning Web Apps; Pia Bernal, Social Enterprise Investments manager and head of Communications at Kickstart Ventures Inc.; Ted Padova, Dean at School of Visual Arts at Philippine College of Technology; Wesley Chiongbian, CEO and founder at; Gilmar Padua, CEO at; Eric Clark Su, co-founder and CEO at Twidl Inc.; Jason Torres, CTO and hacker at Proudcloud, Jayson Basañes, co-founder and CTO at Twidl Inc.; Christian Foster, technical director at Bywave; Ferdie Macatangay, Country Channels manager, SWG at IBM; and Simplicio Jison Jr., president & CEO at Accelerate Desk.
