-A A +A

Monday, August 11, 2014

DEAR Dr. Fritz,

Please call me Judy. My problem is my migraine headache and I’m getting them a week before my menstruation. The truth is, it’s killing me. All of my day would be ruined every time this would hit me. Please help me what to do. I’m exasperated.

Thanks and more power.

Exasperated Judy

Dear Exasperated Judy,

The truth is the way to avoid migraine is to avoid them. But, the way to avoid them is you need to know the things that bring them on to you. Now, if you know how to find them in your life, you will be able to avoid them. By doing so, you’ll soon be able to notice some improvements of your bad headaches and they’ll not hit you as often as they do.

Remember that migraine triggers can add up. But, you have to avoid as many migraine triggers as you can because if you do, the better are your chances of to avoid them.

Read on the following tips to help you out!

1. Try to avoid these migraine triggers! If you don’t have control over them, then, try to manage them.

a. Stress. You have to relax, my dear. Remember that if you are stressed, this will put a strain in your cardiovascular system.

b. Menstrual cycle – of course, you can’t control this. But, if you exercise a week or two before your menstrual cycle, the less likely you’ll get those excruciating headaches.

c. Changes in your routine – like how much you exercise or how much time you spent sleeping.

d. Fasting or skipping meals. So, you really have to eat in the right schedule even if you’re on a diet because you wanted to lose some weight.

e. Changes in the weather or temperature. So, if a blow of cold air would trigger those headaches, try avoiding being hit by the cold blows of the air conditioners. Try also avoiding exposing yourself under the heat of the sun.

f. Bright and glaring lights. Avoid them as much as you can. Use shades when you go out.

g. Chocolate. Gosh, they must be good but, just try to weigh in the benefits and the risks. Well, if you can manage those headaches in exchange for some chocolatey sweets, then, it’s all up to you…hehe.

h. Alcohol. This actually would cater to all types of alcohol, especially beer and red wine. But, then, again, if you can handle the pains, it is all up to you..hehe.

i. Odors. Ohhh, these would include perfumes, paints, cigarette smoke, and anything that may hit your nose bad. The good thing is, not all perfumes can trigger your migraine attack. You just have to be cautious on what odor would have your nose smirk.

Well, as much as there are more things that we need to tackle about handling your problem, but, since we are now running out of space, then, let me continue this in my next issue. Until then!
