Take care of your skin this summer-A A +A

IT IS a common knowledge that summer heat is unfriendly to our skin. Thus, certain beauty regimens must be followed in order to keep our skin smooth and healthy-glowing.
While everyone else is out in the beach and frolicking under the scorching heat of the sun, I always opt to enjoy my “me” time in the cottage, just reading. And since I’m a morena, I’m so afraid that I’d even get darker if I’ll enjoy the beach. That’s precisely my reason why I just always stay under the shade. Yes, I’m no beach lover but despite that, I’m still not exempted from suffering from possible skin diseases especially that I need to go out oftentimes for errands.
Browsing over some websites that provide information on how to care for our skin this summer, I find the following tips as the so-called “must”:
1. Make water your bestfriend. According to www.dermalogica.com, higher temperatures and more time outdoors leads to internal dehydration, which can result in headaches and dizzy spells. Therefore, the site recommends that we drink eight glasses of eight ounces of plain and pure water everyday to “help maintain critical moisture balance of the body and skin, and assist in detoxification”. If you take in caffeinated beverages (e.g. coffee and softdrinks), you must triple your daily water consumption.
2. Sunscreen must come in handy. The said website also gives emphasis on the importance of applying (and reapplying) sunscreen whenever you’re out. It encourages everyone to “apply enough, and apply frequently”. For the face, a teaspoon of sunscreen must be used, while for the body, you need to apply as much as an amount that would fill in a shot glass. But wait, you need to choose the right sunscreen formula for your skin type. “Today’s sophisticated formulas and technology let you select sun protection that works with your skin condition. That means you can choose oil-free, mattifying formulas, extra emollient formulas for dry skin, or chemical free formulas for sensitized, reactive skin.”
3. No, never between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The site www.wikihow.com shares that the hottest part of the day during the summer is the most damaging time which is between 10AM and 3PM. Therefore, it’s better to enjoy our outdoor summer activities before or after the said time.
4. Wear protective clothing. The weather might be telling us to wear less in order not to feel too hot. However, not protecting our skin while we are exposed to summer heat may just damage our skin. No, I’m not telling you that you need to wear pajamas and long-sleeved tops! Wikihow says “cover up as much skin as you can, using lightweight fabrics when it's really hot and uncomfortable. Choose fabrics that won't itch, scratch, or overheat you and prefer light colors over dark ones, to keep the heat level down”. As for me, I never leave my umbrella and fashionable hat whenever I need to go out.
Hope these simple tips could help you. Let’s not forget that skin damage doesn’t only affect our skin but especially our budget.
