Fashion is for babies, too

-A A +A

FOR mommies like me who love to constantly look good, it is also our desire to see our little ones in fashionable pieces. However, we must never forget that being fashionable is not the ultimate goal, but for babies to be comfortable as much as possible.

The very moment we learned that we were finally having a baby girl, I've already been an avid visitor of websites that provide clothes and accessories for little ones. Aside from these online shops, I've also become one of the frequent customers of the malls' infant sections.

For our seven-month-old little girl, Purple, I've always been on the lookout for fashion pieces that will not only glamorize her but most importantly, to make her feel fresh despite the summer heat (and long brownouts!).

For seven months of dressing up my live doll, here are some of the things that I've learned:

1. Clothes must be comfortable. We have to make sure that we choose the right kind of fabric - soft cotton, that is! Considering that babies' skin is very sensitive, we must ensure that they only wear those that will never irritate their skin. And with the extra humid weather right now, cotton is definitely the best option. Likewise, we must veer away from clothes with so many unnecessary details like tassels which might just irritate their delicate skin.

2. Headbands are definitely cute, but we must always make sure that we've got the best size and design for our pretty little girls. For Purple, I look for headbands that are made of soft laces which cannot affect her cranial nerves. Tip: Check that when removing the headband, there's no mark left on baby's head. If there is, then we've bought the wrong size. Also, opt for designs (e.g. flowers sewn on the band) that don't rub with baby's skin since at times, these cause rashes on baby's forehead.

3. Those tiny booties and doll shoes truly look perfectly cute on her! Nevertheless, look for the right size and style, too. When babies are not yet walking, better choose crib shoes since they are made of soft materials. Another tip, check the inner portion of the shoes all the time. Ensure that nothing hard inside might hurt our babies' soft toes and soles.

By the way, mommies, don't forget to mix and match to produce a different look whenever our babies is out to sashay her fashion style.
