Dark neck

-A A +A

DEAR Dr. Fritz

Hi. I’m wishing you the best of the year. I am Elle. I am one of those fashionistas but, the problem is I have this dark neck. And because I am fashionista, I get over this with scarves after scarves. But, I’m really getting tired of my look especially when it’s scorching hot. Why is this happening to me? What should I do? By the way, I’ve heard that you love fashion, too. Is there any suggestion you can give aside from scarves to make me look good?

Please help me. Thanks a lot. May the force be with you!

Dear Elle of DC,

Thanks for your warm wishes. I was amused upon knowing that you’ve heard that I love fashion. Yes! You have heard it partly right! I really love the arts and that made me want to love fashion, too. Back in high school, I just wanted to become a fashion designer. But, my parents wouldn’t allow me. And as an obedient child, I am a physician today. But, that didn’t deter me to get some taste of my passion. I had an OJT with Rene Salud at the time when I was training for aesthetic dermatology and from time to time, I still can do some fashion designs on the side – pag may time..hehe. That love of arts make me get into the field of aesthetic dermatology and surgery, instead of internal medicine which my consultant had been prodding me to pursue when I was still an intern.

Well, so much of my personal nostalgia. Let’s get into your business. I know how your confidence suffers with this dark neck. It’s dirty and it’s horrible to look at.

There are a lot of reasons why dark necks happen. The possible culprits are pregnancy, hormone imbalance, sunburn, birth control pills and heredity.

But, don’t fret. There are a lot of things you can do to fight this menace.

1. Drink a lot of water

Water is the cheapest way to flush those toxins absorbed by your body to make your skin lighter. Be sure it’s at least 8 glasses a day.

2. Use chickpea flour

Scrub it to your neck area. It will get rid of your accumulated dead skin cells and make your skin a lot lighter.

3. Use lemon or calamansi extract

Do this 30 minutes before you take a shower. Scrub it to your neck area and leave it for 30 minutes and then, rinse after with water.

4. Use cucumber juice

Pour cucumber juice to your body scrub and use it when you take a bath. Do scrub your neck area with this concoction.

5. Use powdered dried orange peel and milk

Make a paste of this mixture. Scrub this into your neck area and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, wash after.

6. Use aloe vera gel

Apply directly a coat of aloe vera into your neck area. Leave it for 15 minutes before rinsing with water.

As there are more issues to go, let me talk more of this in my next issue. Until then!
