THE Maharlika Sports Development Institute Inc. (MSDII) has signed up with the office of the Liga ng mga Barangay chair and City Councilor January N. Duterte to bring its grassroots futsal development program to all 184 barangays of Davao City, with Sun.Star Davao as its media partner, and the JCI Davaoena Daba-Daba.

The memorandum of agreement was signed by Councilor Duterte and Edgar L. Te of MSDI, with City Sports Development Officer Butch Ramirez and Sun.Star editor-in-chief Stella Estremera signing as witnesses.

The Liga ng mga Barangay thus commits to convene barangays and assist MSDII in implementing its holistic sports development program for football and futsal. MSDII has made a name in the past four years in implementing a continuing training-and-development program for players and coaches alike with the expertise of FIFA Match Commissioner and coach David Dwight Pestano, who is MSDII’s technical diresctor, FIFA assistant coach Merlo S. Albano, and veteran football coach Noel Presto.

Thus, its sports program is not limited to summer leagues that randomly picks out players, but is more into mentoring.

Before signing up with Liga ng mga Barangay, MSDII with Sun.Star Davao and several other partners ran its Liga Bata Futsal competitions at SM Lanang, it has also set up training programs in some public schools incuding the AL Navarro National High School, and a continuing training for kids at Ladislawa, among many others.

There representing MSDII aside from Te were Peter Philip Lat and coaches Presto and Albano. Pestano is still in Doha, Qatar for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2015 AFC Qualifier.

The barangay program officially starts April 6.
