IT'S a dream come true. This was how Task Force Davao (TFD) commander Col. Macairog Alberto described his chosen career as a soldier.

Alberto, who is serving of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for 28 years now, said he is satisfied with he has become.

He said serving the public and protecting the people from possible risks, with his family on his side, is a great achievement he could take for the rest of his life.

"Noon pa man pangarap ko na ang maglingkod sa mamamayan sa pamamagitan ng pagsusundalo. 'Yung akala ko na laro-laro lang, nakahiligan, hanggang sa pumasok na ako sa pagsusundalo," Alberto said.

Born in Quezon Province, Alberto completed his studies at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1986. He is known for his first-rate leadership qualities and efficient managerial skills in his previous assignments.
Despite the heavy duties on his shoulders, Alberto kept his commitment to his profession. He sees to it that the welfare and security of his personnel are always attended to aside from the public.

"May mga pagkakataon na isip ko, ano kaya kung ‘di ako sundalo. Ano kaya kung iba naman ang trabaho ko? Pero alam mo yung feeling na enjoy ka sa trabaho mo, I believed this is my calling," Alberto said.

Alberto said though being a soldier is not easy, never had he thought of quitting his job.

"I'd studied and work hard just to reach this position. For me, this isn’t just a work anymore… I love my job," he added.

With several assignments and awards he had achieved from various areas he had served, Alberto is described by his men as very well disciplined, serious and strict, detailed, and meticulous in his job.

Alberto is a person whom everyone could approach. And despite his busy schedule, as a father and a husband, Alberto sees to it that he could provide the needs of his family and spend time with them.

"We [in the family] all have adjusted. It’s either uuwi ako sa amin or sila naman bibisita dito (Davao City). Alam mo naman ang trabaho is 24/7 pero ‘di ito hindrance for us to attend our personal stuffs," he said.

Before Alberto assumed his post as TFD commander last June 6, he was assigned first as assistant chief of staff for Intelligence at the Philippine Army headquarters.

As TFD head, Alberto aims to give the TF Davao a satisfactory and fulfilling course with the support from the local government unit and personnel of the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police (PNP).
