Masbad: Energy-A A +A
Monday, May 12, 2014
OVER the course of the past few months, concerns have been raised on energy consumption, sources and renewability. And if you're in Mindanao right now, you will most definitely be concerned. Power outages that last anywhere between 4 to 12 hours are common already and has become a fact of daily life. It has also hurt the economy - lower productivity, lower revenues, etc.
And that brings everyone's minds to ask whether we have enough energy supply to power our growing economy and development. Has the government even taken steps to ensure that a national power crisis does not happen? If so, what are these steps? What kind of power generation mix are we going to see in the coming years?
Is renewable energy being looked at? Are we putting enough attention to it? Do we know which renewable energy resource is best for our country?
There are a lot of questions out there. One thing's for sure though - we need to find a suitable energy producing technology that will answer our insatiable need for power. And we need to find it fast or risk finding ourselves in the dark. Literally.
I won't go into so much boring details about this and risk turning this article into some political piece. Instead, I'll share with you a few infographics that I've found on the web. Infographics that will, hopefully, let you see the reality of renewable energy and that it's a possibility for all of us.
Finally, here's a 2-year-old graphic on who's the biggest user of all of the world's energy.
