SUCCESS comes to those who work harder.

This is how Rinen Batao dela Cerna described his achievement in life. Dela Cerna works as a deputized collecting officer, a dangerous drug board, disbursing officer, and administrative officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pdea) in Davao Region.

Dela Cerna, who once dreamed of becoming a policeman, said he's content and happy with what he has become. "I'm thankful that I still work for the common good," he said, adding that for seven years in Pdea 11, he never thought of quitting.

Born on December 25, 1894 in Davao City, Dela Cerna completed his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminology degree at the University of Mindanao in 2006. He also holds a vocational course in Automotive Servicing II at Endonela Institute of Technology in 2010. He earned nine units in Masters in Criminology in 2009.

Dela Cerna was a working student. He worked at different fast food chains here in the city just to earn his degree. His father is a soldier and his mother is a plain housewife. Both have to care and provide for the needs of their four children. De La Cerna, however, decided to work not only for himself but also for their family.

"I never dreamed about success. I worked for it. In God's grace I was able to manage everything despite the hectic schedules. I never regretted those years that I've spent working while studying because that made me who I am now," Dela Cerna said.

After he graduated from college, Dela Cerna landed a job at Pdea where he also underwent internship. Aside from his current assignments, he also joined his colleagues in conducting seminars and workshops in different areas in Davao Region.

He considered his career as brought by the circumstances. He added that it might not be his first choice, but he loves his career since it is still in line with public service. He said he could not ask for more except for guidance from the Lord.

He also manages to join and be part of the Team Davao Runners for two years now. Dela Cerna considers life like a race. He said, "Running has never failed to give me great results [just like in life], and that is why I keep coming back for more."

He balances his personal life, work, relationship with his love ones and his spiritual life.
