ASIA'S Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid's presence will always be a draw. The luminous star, one of the most famous celebrities in the country, stepped onto the stage as adoring fans, and press went wild with thunderous applause while screaming their admiration for the country's music icon.

It is a known fact that Filipinos from all walks of life know who she is and I won't be surprised either that she cultivated the gay culture or subsequently be a gay icon. And I bet she wouldn't flinch at all.

The Kapuso Mall Show last March 15 at Abreeza Mall Activity Center was a blast. The crowd was overwhelmingly ecstatic of seeing her in person, including myself. Clad in jeans and white polo, paired with gray wedge sandals, she exudes strength and attitude.

Despite her superstar status, Regine made her Davao audience feel at home and at ease. It was like one big pajama party, she strip off her diva image and gladly talked about her son Nate, who called her up, just to tell her that he just finished eating egg for breakfast.

She added that being a new mom "has been great" then performed a song from her newest album, titled "Hulog Ka Ng Langit," an album that consists of original and revival songs that celebrate her motherhood and love for her son Nathaniel James Alcasid.

"It has been three years since my last visit here in Davao, and I am happy to see you all again," and managed to reply the shouts of I Love You's thrown at her in between songs.

And as she sang Adelle medley, her Ako'y Iyong Iyo, I Don't Want To Miss A thing, On the Wings of Love, Last dance and I Will Survive, the crowd goes wild.

There were belly laughs during the show, a fan who Regine asked to come up the stage for a "selfie," must be so excited with the gesture that when he went down the stairs, tripped and his dentures fell right out onto the floor.

Among the impersonators included Allyca Agua Bendita, my friend's stand-up comedians Chabz Barrios-Corteza won the crowd hands down after he rendered his "makabasag pinggan" version of "Till I Met You" and Kenita who won the Regine Velasquez impersonation contest.

I also lauded Macky Perez a.k.a Lady Morgana for his lip-synching of "Leader of the Band" and his still much talked about epic ragdoll "falling down the stairs" act that made Regine laugh her heart out.

The audience was also shocked with the move and yet was entertained. At the end I wonder which body parts hit the stairs first as Regine quipped "Ay sus buwis buhay, ano ba iyan" and the entire crowd was up on their feet, while singing "I Will Survive." Watching the video of that scene still make me laughed uncontrollably.

The Songbird made a special shout out to Davao fans in Visayan "I speak and understand a little Cebuano, kaya di ko ninyo mabaligya." Scream and cheers erupted the activity area as Regine shared her Davao experience, by tasting Davao's fruits like marang (her favorite) and durian, for which she claimed "Nakatakim nap o ako ng durian, mga isa at kalahati lang. Medyo di ko nagustuhan ang texture kaya nilunok ko na lang."

The show also showcased singing contest ala Regine Velasquez dubbed as "Search for Davao's Songbird," and contestants included Jane Rincal with her version "What Kind of Fool I Am," Julia Pecasera (Shine) and winner Aeila Santos who sang "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing."

The contest judges included Ruby Ochoa (Abreeza's marketing head) and former City Mayor and Kapuso host Sara "Inday" Duterte- Carpio.
I observed a few mishaps during the show but thanks to Velasquez, she was flawless. So chill and calm while hitting and slaying every note with such ease, grace and skill. And quite a good host too.

As gratitude to her fans, she allowed them to take "selfies" up on the stage, to me it shows how down-to-earth she is, giving back the love to her die-hard fans. And yes, I am proud to say that I am a fan!

The Asia's Songbird is a talented star and a sweet person who sincerely wants to make her fans feel welcome and at ease. Wherever she goes, the ethereal quality and charm she radiates is a grand and marvelous thing.
Thanks to Shim More and Gino Duduaco for the invites.
