AFTER more than two years since starting out in a humble broadcasting setup, GMA Northern Mindanao proudly announced the advent of a news program that is expected to significantly change more than just the viewing habits of Northern Mindanaoans -- the Testigo Northern Mindanao.

The program's much anticipated maiden airing is on February 5 at 5:05 p.m. on GMA Channel 12 and Channel 35.

Stemming from the highly respected and award-winning national newscast program Saksi, this new offering from the Kapuso Network aims to not just deliver news, but provide Northern Mindanaons with information that are balanced, fair, accurate, and timely.

Testigo Northern Mindanao's goal is to deliver news "That Really Matters" to all audiences so they are made aware of events, enabling them to make informed decisions and intelligent choices.

Simply put, all these are done in the continuing effort to give "Serbisyong Totoo" to every Filipino.

With its state of the art broadcasting facilities, Testigo Northern Mindanao will reach households that are beyond the boundaries of Region X.

Aside from serving the homes of Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Ozamiz City, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Camiguin, and Lanao del Norte, the new news program will also reach people in several parts of Bohol, Zamboanga Provinces, Maguindanao, Davao Oriental, North and South Cotabato. It is in fact, the widest reach of an originating station outside Metro Manila.

"GMA invested over P70 million in state-of-the-art studio, technical operations center, satellite multi-link microwave system and electronic news gathering equipment," said Rikki Escudero, GMA's vice president for Regional TV and head for expansion and production services.

Escudero said that events that occurred during and immediately after typhoon Sendong struck Northern Mindanao back in December 2011 helped spur GMA Network management's decision to launch a newscast specifically for Northern Mindanao at the soonest possible time.

Footages of despair and loss, and of heroism and hope "were so compelling" that help was immediately underway as spearheaded by the GMA Kapuso Foundation and the Regional TV group.

On February 5, Testigo Northern Mindanao presents a young and enthusiastic team, led by its anchor Kenneth Ragpala. Correspondents Joe Legaspina, Jacky Cabatuan, Christian Gonzales, Jeik Compo, Joane Tabique, and Pia Abas complete the roster. Figuring as segment host for light news is former beauty queen Emily Rafols.

After its maiden newscast, Testigo Northern Mindanao will regularly air every Mondays to Fridays at 5:05 p.m. on GMA Channel 12 and Channel 35.

As the Kapuso Network hopes to engage the public more in its stories, comments, contributions, and suggestions for Testigo Northern MIndanao are welcome through Facebook (Testigo Northern Mindanao), Twitter (@testigonorthmin), mobile numbers 09155179307 (Globe and TM) and 09206673091 (Smart and Talk & Text) and landline 852-9987.
