THE Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) requested the Davao City Tourism Operation Office (CTOO) to submit further details on their proposal for the restoration and the development of Little Tokyo in Mintal.

CTOO officer-in-charge Lisette Marques, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said some of the additional information they were asked to submit were: if portions that will be restored or develop have land titles, or are government-owned land, and if there is right of way matters that need to addressed.

She said Tieza also asked for a clearer and better version of the old and new maps since it is not possible to make a comparison as the scales of each map don't coincide.

Marques said they are continuously feeding Tieza with more information regarding the Little Tokyo.

The cost of the development and restoration of Little Tokyo will be determined by Tieza and not by CTOO.

She said some of the sites in Little Tokyo include the Japanese hospital, market, and cemetery.

Earlier this month, Marques announced in a recent press conference that they have submitted an initial proposal to Tieza through Roberto U. Teo, a member of the Tieza board.

"We are hoping that we will be supported in creating a development plan for Little Tokyo and be able to restore it and be part of our tourism circuit," Marques said.

She said they are seeing an increase in the influx of tourists to the city with the introduction of a restored and developed Little Tokyo.

Marques also pointed out that the development of Little Tokyo has to be studied carefully since the community will be affected in a sense that there will be a need to relocate some settlers in some of the sites in Little Tokyo. She said this is already being done with the help of the barangay captain who informed the settlers that the development will impact them positively.

They are hoping to get the approval from Tieza and the program implementation of Little Tokyo within the year.

Little Tokyo used to be the location of where Japanese are living in Davao during the pre-war period.
