Minda backs proposal to upgrade Pulangi 4-A A +A

THE Mindanao Development Authority (Minda) endorsed the proposal of the National Power Corporation (NPC) to the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (Psalm) for the installation of a hydromatrix or hybrid integrated turbine generator assembly as part of the upgrading of Pulangi 4 in Maramag, Bukidnon.
Romeo M. Montenegro, Minda director of investment promotions and public affairs, said in this proposal, modular turbines will be installed in the head-race canal, where the water passes through going to the turbine.
The mechanism will tap the flow of water at the head-race canal and will allow Pulangi 4 to generate an additional 16 megawatts (MW) on top of its 250 MW capacity.
Psalm has reffered the proposal to the Department of Energy for advise, with regards to its impact, if ever, on the privatization of Agus-Pulangi. The project will be treated as an independent power producer (IPP) project and shall go through normal application process as a new generating facility.
Minda has also endorsed another proposal of NPC to Psalm for the allocation of P265 million for selective dredging in Pulangi 4 in order to address the siltation problem and increase generating output.
Currently, Psalm is processing the viablity of the project for funding and has requested to provide additional information.
Pulangi 4 is located at the Pulangi River in Maramag, Bukidnon and is able to generate 250 MW.
The Agus-Pulangi Power Plant Complexes are currently undergoing rehabilitation and upgrading, particularly Agus 1, 2, 6, and Pulangi 4.Some P4.96 billion budget has been allocated for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 982 megawatt (MW) power plant complex.
