THE Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Davao posted a total collection of P4.27 billion in the first six months of this year, exceeding its target collection of P3.79 billion for the same period.

From January to June of 2014, BOC-Davao surpassed the target collection by P480 million, representing an increase of 12.7 percent, based on the data e-emailed by Charo Logarta Lagamon, head of BOC public information and assistance office.

Lagamon said BOC-Davao also exceeded its target collection for June alone, posting an excess of some P187.6 million or 30.06 percent after collecting P811.5 million as against the P623.9-million target.

The Port of Cagayan de Oro, meanwhile, slightly went over its P3.89 billion first half target after collecting P3.95 billion.

The ports of Surigao and Zamboanga, however, fell short on their respective targets for this year's first half.

Of the P24.4-million target, the Port of Surigao only collected P2.9 million while the Port of Zamboanga only collected P21.3 million, falling short on its P28.5 million goal.

But while the two ports in Mindanao failed to hit their target, Lagamon said the entire agency has improved its collection compared to last year's first half.

"For the first half of 2014, total revenues reached P173.4 billion, higher by P28.27 billion or 19.5 percent year on year. The Ports of Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Subic, Aparri, Cebu and Davao closed mid-year ahead of their collection targets, on the back of improved economic activity and on-ground reforms," Lagamon said.

She also cited that the agency had a 17.5 percent increase in revenue for the month of June compared to last year’s collection of P23.253 billion after collecting P27.327 billion.

She added that the agency is eyeing revenues of P35 billion for this month.
