THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is targeting to fully energize its new sub-station in Davao City before the year ends.

NGCP regional communications officer Milfrance Capulong, who guested in yesterday's edition of Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao, said the construction of the sub-station in Toril started late last year.

The sub-station transforms high voltage power supply to low voltage which will be distributed to power utilities, which will then distribute it to its consumers.

"It will augment the existing transmission facilities in Davao City considering that we have new power plants coming up," she said.

Capulog said the new sub-station will have an initial capacity of 100 megavolt ampere (MVA).

The Toril sub-station will be the sixth under the NGCP District 5 operations, which includes Davao Region and Kidapawan City.

Their exisiting sub-stations are in Maco, Nabunturan, Matanao, Kidapawan, and Mintal, Davao City.

The sub-station in Mintal is also the largest in the area with a capacity of 200 MVA. They are also upgrading the Mintal sub-station's computer system to a microwave computer system.
