DCCI's biz unit renovation to be completed this month

THE renovations for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The SBDC is a business unit of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCII) that is aimed to facilitate and assist its local small and medium enterprises and startup businesses.

DCCCII president Antonio T. dela Cruz, in an interview on Tuesday, said the renovations of the center began last January 2014 and it is now 90 percent complete.


Mary Antonette Doromal, DCCCII acting executive director, said they are targeting to hold a soft launch for the center in the first week of July.
She said 15 or 16 of the 33 office cubes are still unoccupied. She said they are receiving inquiries and quotation requests everyday on the utilization of the facilities at the SMEDC.

"Time to time, there are those who come here to look at the center," Doromal said.

The SBDC will contain offices that can be used by SMEs for a fee. It also features a co-working space known as The Cube, the first co-working facility in Mindanao and will offer a modern, spacious, and technically up-to-date facility.

A training room, board room, and a president's conference room will also be housed by the SBDC.

An Asean Desk will also be placed in the SBDC. It will serve as a help desk that focuses on the needs of the members and other businesses in terms of readiness and preparation for the Asean Economic Convergence 2015.

Last January, SBDC director Raf Vlummens also introduced three educational platforms -- StartSmart, TakeOff and FastTrack -- for young and star-up entrepreneurs.

The StartSmart, a basic program introducing the entrepreneurs to business planning and set-up; TakeOff, a one-on-one program to support start-up entrepreneur during the planning and development of the business venture, and; FastTrack, specialized workshops and seminars to equip SME's and entrepreneurs with business-related skills and knowledge.

The center also features a conference space, pantry, 24/7 security, high speed internet, virtual secretary, high speed printer and copier, mailbox, telephone, and janitorial services. (RJFL)
