Hospitality biz up by 182% from 2006-2010

TOURISM establishments increased by 182.57 percent in a span of four years from 2006 to 2010, according to the Sectoral Study of the Davao City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (Clup) 2013-2022.

Based on the study's data taken from the City Tourism Office, tourism support facilities and services in the city went up to 1,054 establishments in 2010 from 373 establishments in 2006.

The study categorized these establishments into four: dwelling places, dining and entertainment centers, convention facilities, shopping centers, and tour operators and travel agencies.


Dining and entertainment centers (restaurants, dining and entertainment, cocktail, night clubs, bars, and entertainment centers) experienced the highest number of growth with 249.76 percent. Establishments in this category grew from 209 in 2006 to 731 in 2010.

Tour operators and travel agencies had the second highest growth with 150.94% wherein it grew from 53 establishments in 2006 to 133 in 2010.
Convention facilities followed closely at third with an 81.81 percent growth from 11 establishments to 20 from 2006 to 2010.

Dwelling places (hotels, inns, pension houses, suites, motels, apartelles, dormitories, and resorts) grew by 71.42 percent from 2006 to 2010. From 91 in 2006, this number grew to 156.

Shopping centers, which also include souvenir shops and delicacy stores, had the lowest growth rate at 55.55 percent wherein it grew from nine establishments in 2006 to 14 in 2010. (RJL)
