Dole grants P8.37M to 30 livelihood projects-A A +A

THE regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Davao released Monday some P8.37 million in grant for 30 livelihood projects in the region for 2014.
Dole-Davao Director Joffrey M. Suyao said in Monday’s press conference at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao that the grant is intended for materials, tools, equipment, and other inputs for the livelihood projects.
The total project cost of the 30 projects is around P13.146 million, but Dole will only grant P8.37 million. The remaining amount will be the counterpart of the proponent of the projects.
Some 1,900 individuals will benefit from these projects, three of which are under the Dole-Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Convergence, nine under the Dole Integrated Livelihood Projects (DILP), and 18 under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB).
Dole-DOST Convergence projects include: chili production and processing in Davao Oriental, establishment of water disinfection process and Tubug-Talino production in Compostela Valley, and the water refilling station in Davao del Norte. Total project cost is P4.384 million while Dole grant is P1.655 million. Total number of beneficiaries is 329.
Projects under the DILP are: fish shelter installation to generate self employment in Cateel and Baganga, tissue cultured plants (TCP) on banana chips, and fresh Miki making in Davao Oriental, and Tindahan and ihaw-ihaw sa Barangay in Davao del Norte.
Projects in Davao City under the DILP are: printing services of students of the USEP College of Technology, canteen and consumer store of Davao Insular Hotel employees cooperative, and corn shelling service of the Datu Nugan Clan Association Subordinate. Projects for Compostela Valley include: livelihood starter kits in Mawab and Maco.
Total cost of DILP projects is P4.476 million while the Dole grant is P3.373 million and the total number of beneficiaries is 897.
The municipalities of Sta. Cruz, Asuncion, Monkayo, and Caraga are the local government units who will be given grants for projects under the GBP. There are a total of 18 projects under the GBP. Total project cost is P4.284 million while total Dole grant is P3.341 million and the total number of beneficiaries is 721.
Suyao said the projects were approved proposals from local government units, cooperatives, and other recognized partners of Dole.
