THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Davao region reported a 16 percent increase in revenues collected from 2012 to 2013.

BIR Davao officer-in-charge and regional director lawyer Glen A. Geraldino, during the 2014 Tax Campaign Kick-off press conference at the BIR regional office, said the bureau collected P10.94 billion in Davao Region last year, up by 16 percent or P1.75 billion increase from the P9.19 billion collection in 2012.

Geraldino said this significant increase even though Typhoon Pablo caused problems in some parts of the region.

"Despite the 16 percent increase, BIR Davao did not achieve its P11 billion target," he said.

Geraldino attributed the shortfall in the problems plagueing the banana industry with the Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 112-Tagum City suffering from lower revenue collection.

The banana industry and other industries that are related to it – like manpower services, fertilizer companies, and truck services – suffered losses from the problems in the banana industry thus lower income in the part of the companies and lower revenue collection in the part of BIR.

With a target of P13.12 billion in revenue collection this year, the agency will be intensifying its tax enforcement in the region like running after tax evaders and continuously implementing the Oplan Kandado.
