THE Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), a subsidiary of the Aboitiz Power Corp., announced a new power outage scheme that took effect Monday and where duration may extend up to two hours.

DLPC said in its Facebook page that the existing schedule per area will be rotated for the whole week.

For example, if the area's schedule in the present scheme is between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., it will be changed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. schedule for two consecutive days.

Consumers may contact DLPC to know when their new schedule is.

The distribution company implemented a one-hour rotating power interruption in its franchise area after the Mindanao-wide outage on February 27. DLPC said the power interruptions may extend up to two hours depending on the availability of power on a given schedule.

"It will continue until notice from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to lift its implementation is received," DLPC said.

In its February 28 post on Facebook, DLPC said the implementation of the rotating brownouts "is necessary to apportion available power supply to its customers."

"It will also contribute in avoiding total collapse of the entire Mindanao transmission grid which happens when the demand for power exceeds the available supply," DLPC said.

The distribution company assured its consumers that it will exert its best efforts "to keep service interruptions at the least possible time or at all, avoid disruptions by optimizing its embedded power sources: the standby diesel plant at Bajada and the Hedcor Sibulan and Talomo Hydropower plants."

"Davao Light apologizes to its consumers for the inconvenience brought about by these power interruptions which are beyond its control," DLPC said. (Reuel John F. Lumawag)
