AN ECONOMIC zone for electronics companies is being eyed for Davao City.

But Davao City Investments and Promotions Center officer-in-charge Ivan Cortez told reporters on Friday that they will first identify the locators for the economic zone.

"Once we have identified them, we will inform and hold meetings with landowners and stakeholders in Davao City about the planned economic zone," he said.

He added that to be tackled in these meetings are the plans of stakeholders and landowners and to give them updates on the city's new comprehensive land use plan (Clup).

One of the possible loacations for the zone is the Three Ridges Integrated Area Development (Triad), which covers barangays Catigan, Eden, and Tagurano.

"The idea here is because of its cool climate. Electronics companies that have established their companies in cooler areas are able to cut electricity cost by 40 percent," he said.

Cortez said Davao City is now ready to host more businesses like those in the electronic industry.

"It is high time for Davao City to have an economic zone. We at DCIPC will just help initiate and facilitate the setting up of the economic zone," he said.

They will also hold meetings with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority for the accreditation of the zone.

"One of the considerations for the economic zone was the electronics company's plan to expand in Davao City," he said.

Earlier, Board of Investment Davao extension office head Gil Dureza bared that electronics manufacturer and export company RNM Dynamics Philippines Inc. has considered Davao City for expansion due to the increasing market demand for electronics products here in Mindanao.

Cortez also said the company has signified to help them in inviting electronics companies to invest in the city.

During the first quarter of the year, they will be doing a roadshow for 25 foreign clients, most of whom are Japanese, in Cebu.

Aside from the economic zone for electronics companies, DCIPC is looking for local investors and partner for the setting up of an amusement park, like the Ocean Park in Manila and Enchanted Kingdom in Laguna, in the city.
