A first-ever Mindanao Exporters Congress (MEC) which seeks to unite exporters and manufacturers in Mindanao will be held in Davao City on August 1 to 3, 2013.

The event is made possible by the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (Philexport) Davao Region.

"If we are divided, then we are competing, not cooperating," Irene Dalayon, of the Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao (Cidami), said.

The Congress, which coincides with Philexport's 20th anniversary, will gather the country's exporters, manufacturers, traders, allied services providers and all other export industry stakeholders.

One of the issues to be tackled in the conference is the technological innovation in connection with its theme, "Export Value Chain Integration and Innovation Technology."

Dalayon said the market today is different from the previous years because of the advent of technology, adding that they want to help small exporters to step up and use technology to prime their products.

MEC will also provide participants with ready access to relevant information on policies, market trends and technological innovations beneficial to their businesses.

Other issues that will be discussed during the three-day event the SM Lanang Premier SMX Convention Center, are the improving exports to increase Philippine competitiveness and the Asean 2015 Economic Integration. (Ursula Calipayan and Ma. Kristina Camelia Nardo - AdDU Interns)
