THE Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events/Exhibitions Conference (MiceCon) 2013, one of the first-time events to be held in Mindanao, is set to open today, Thursday, at the newly-built SMX Convention Center Davao.

The holding of such international conference is a boon for Davao City as it refocuses its bid to become a Mice destination in the country.

President Benigno S. Aquino III will grace the opening of MiceCon 2013, along with other distinguished guests from across the country and abroad.

It can be recalled that at least 10 foreign resource speakers will be attending the conference, which will run for three days from March 7 until March 9.

In a previous report, this year's MiceCon is expected to gather about 500 delegates.

The foreign speakers plus another Filipino resource speaker who will discuss topics, centering on the travel sector, are:

Professor Ian Yeoman, associate professor of School of Management, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand -- Imagining the Future of Travel;

Martin Winter, chair of International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Asia Pacific Chapter -- The Future of Meetings in Asia Pacific;
