THE Southwestern University Cobras pushed the University of Cebu Webmasters further down the cellar, 59-47, in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate basketball tournament in the Cebu Coliseum last Tuesday.

Cameroonian center Landry Sanjo ended the Webmasters’ comeback late in the match as he scored eight straight points in the fourth to put SWU back up by double digits.

Sanjo finished with a game-high 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.

Trailing 44-31 with a little over two minutes to play in the third quarter, UC leaned on the three points of Carlos Tabaquero and Clint Suelto to cut the lead, 44-37.

Sanjo then scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter for SWU, while Junas Misa made a triple for UC as the Cobras built a 53-40 lead, with 4:10 left to play in the game.

UC’s final stand was a triple from rookie guard Justine Dacalos at the 3:42 mark before the Cobras sealed the win. It was their seventh and eight games.

Sanjo added two blocks to his brilliant performance and reigning MVP Mark Jayven Tallo had 12 points for the Cobras. Jan Auditor and Tabaquero scored nine points each to lead UC, which dropped to 7-1.

Cesafi basketball will take a weeklong respite as actions will resume on Sept. 9.
