LEGENDARY bowler Paeng Nepomuceno confirmed his participation in the First Philippine Sugbu Cup on Sept. 22-28 at the SM City Bowling Center.

The tournament is an open bowling championship hosted by the newly-formed Pilipinas Sugbu Bowlers.

This was disclosed by organizer Egay Alqueza, who was also responsible for organizing the the first Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) National Open from 2009 to 2011.

“It was in 2011 when I managed to bring Nepomuceno to Cebu and play in the 3rd Cetba National Open,” said Alqueza.

Alqueza added that the proceeds of the event will be channeled to the Antonio D. Ynoc Family Foundation to help the survivors of Yolanda in the northern part of Cebu regain their livelihood.

The tournament features an open masters category, which stakes P80,000 for the champion, and a classified category that dangles P50,000 for the winner.

The event is one of the legs of the National Bowling Tour (NBT), where Alqueza serves as one of the administrators.

NBT is headed by Mariano "Nitoy" Tamayo, former Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC) president and current chairman, and long-serving PBC Executive Vice-President Jaime Dychauco.

“Aside from Nepomuceno, we are expecting the participation of current national team members, including the elite bowlers of Visayas and Mindanao,” said Alqueza.

Alqueza added that Luzon bowlers from Lipa, Batangas with ace bowlers Leo Joson and wife Debbie will also join the fray. Billy Lopue, the owner of Lopue's chain of malls in Bacolod, has also confirmed his participation.
