UC wins unprecedented 14 titles in Cesafi table tennis

THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters proved they are the force to reckon with when it comes to table tennis of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi).

This after winning for the 14 straight time the secondary and collegiate titles of Cesafi table tennis yesterday at the UC campus.

The UC men’s team defeated the University of San Carlos, 3-1, in the team competition, while the women’s team also defeated USC, 3-1.


The UC men’s team is composed of Lemuel Agbon, Jamil Anoos, Francis Bendebel, Fausto Zeus Comaingking, Val Stephen Jaca and Dannel Jay Tormis, who beat USC’s Geoffry Apas, Melben Arena, Jude Labastica, Jonathan Orbeta, Jason Christopher Retunza and Emilo Angelo Tan.

The UC women’s team is composed of Lezlie Agbon, Athena Comaingking, Krishna Mae Galenzoga, Cheska Irish Ozoa, Jerry Kaye Pepito, Jeramae Saromines beat USC’s Joarl Errah Banzon, Jucille Mae Cabatingan, Issa Lee Darlo, Phinly Mae Flores, Rose Angelie San Juan and Gracelle Suico.

The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) men and women’s team won defeated Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU), to settle for third in both the men’s and women’s division.

In the secondary division, the boys UC table netters beat USC, 3-2 to win the title, while the UC girls team won against University of San Jose Recoletos, 3-0.

According to UC head coach Jiji Jawad-Honoridez that she is overwhelmed that they were able to retain this year’s title.

“We were pressured because we have been winning the tournament for 14 years. Taas kaayo ang expectations to extend the dominance,” said Honoridez.

Honoridez added that what the teams achieved is because of the strong backing of the school.

“The strong support from the school has inspired the players to play their best,” said Honoridez.
