THE University of the Visayas basketball squads pulled dominating victories over their counterparts from the University of Cebu to improve their standings in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The defending champions UV Green Lancers were sharp at the start to score a 76-50 repeat over the Webmasters last Tuesday night, while the Baby Lancers needed an end-game spark from Orlan Wamar to subdue the hardfighting Baby Webmasters, 91-80 yesterday.

The Lancers were hitting their target early to put up a 22-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back to secure its fourth win in seven games, while handing UC its sixth straight defeat in seven matches.

After a 12-point deficit in the first period, UC tried to put up a good challenge as they out-manuevered the Lancers with Graciano Puerto Jr. and Jan Auditor scoring five points each and Junas Misa contributing four for the Webmasters' 19-13 second quarter outburst.

But UV came out roaring after the break as they dropped an 11-2 run to establish a 46-31 lead on the third.

UC had a short resistance with Auditor scoring four of a 6-0 blitz but UV was again unstoppable as it closed the third period on a 14-4 run that closed the third period with the defending champions leading 60-41.

An 8-0 run by UV at the start of the fourth period put the game away for good.

Raffy Octobre topscored for UV with 16 points, while Nigerian Jeffakins Aguara added 10. while Auditor and Puerto finished with 13 each for UC.
