ONE-TIME world title challenger Vergilio Silvano looks to bounce back as he sees action in the southern town of Alcoy.

Silvano guns for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) flyweight belt against journeyman Marzon Cabilla on Aug. 24 at the Alcoy Sports Complex.

Silvano is coming off an 11th round technical knockout defeat to fellow prospect Jonathan Taconing in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight belt last March in Manila.

Silvano has lost two of his last three fights, in which one was his biggest fight to date, a world title clash with then International Boxing Federation (IBF) mini-flyweight king Katsunari Takayama. He lost to Takayama by a lopsided unanimous verdict.

The 23-year-old Cabilla should be a good opponent for a fighter that’s looking to find back his groove. Cabilla is your stereotypical journeyman, a fighter that has been all around and takes any fight that comes his way. He has fought some familiar names like former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro, Tommy Seran and youth champion Knockout CP Freshmart.

Silvano is 18-4-1 with 10 knockouts, while Cabilla is 9-12-1 with four knockouts.

Promising young fighter Jason Redondo (9-2-1, 7 KOs) tests his mettle against gatekeeper Joash Apericio (11-12, 8 KOs) in the show’s main supporting bout.

Since losing to Jimmy Paypa last year, the 20-year-old Redondo has won two in a row against Bonnie and Alvin Makiling. He is the current PBF featherweight titleholder.

Following a promising start to his career, Apericio has since become a fighter that tests up-and-coming fighters. He has seen action against the likes of Roli Gasca, Melvin Gumban, Mark Bernaldez, Ciso Morales Ralph Lulu and Jack Tepora.

In the undercard, Jimboy Haya (4-1-1, 3 KOs) takes on Allan Doronilla (9-10-1, 3 KOs), Salatiel Amit (4-0-1, 3 KOs) stakes his unbeaten slate against Charlie Cabilla (14-13, 2 KOs), Junny Salogaol (4-7-4, 4 KOs) faces off with Phil Angcamor (12-21-3, 6 KOs), undefeated Jerry Castroverde (3-0, 2 KOs) slugs it out with Arnel Acebuque (1-1, 1 KO), Arney Coactoy (4-2, 2 KOs) locks horns with Robert Awitin (5-16-2, 5 KOs), Marjun Pantilgan (2-1, 2 KOs) is fighting newcomer Dante Rosales, Ponciano Rimandiman (1-0, 1 KO) trades leathers with Allan Garing and Cedie Noblefranca makes his ring debut against fellow rookie Macmac Baribar.
